Basic Research on the Establishment of a Standardization Roadmap of Maritime Autonomous Surface Ship(MASS)

The need for international standard development has been raised based on the results of many studies that the development of Maritime Autonomous Surface Ship(MASS)progressed actively around the world and economic effects can be obtained by using standards.In this study,in order to develop a standardization roadmap required in the field of MASS,the standards published or under development in the field of International Organization for Standardization(ISO)Technical Committee 8,Ships and Marine Technology were analyzed.In addition,by analyzing the existing reports and research results,the performance of MASS related technologies was classified into five categories:situational awareness,intelligent navigation,remote control,ship operation,and port support.The analysis results and technical classification in this study were evaluated and verified through a meeting composed of experts in the relevant field.For further studies the mid-to long-term planning of standardization will be proceeded.
