  • 1. Design and performance analysis of a discontinuous spiral baffle heat exchanger

    摘要: In this paper,a new type of discontinuous spiral baffle heat exchanger is designed,and its heat transfer performance is analyzed by numerical simulation.Considering that the wall of heat exchanger is subjected to high temperature at the same time,a preliminary study on the wall cooling is also carried out.The results show that there is no"Flow dead zone"of relatively stagnant flow,and the air temperature drops to about 38%of the original airflow temperature.The heat transfer Coefficient of the Heat Exchanger is k = 344.4 W/(M2·K),and the heat transfer performance is better.

  • 2. Interpreting the Mute Shipping Languages:the Decorations on Ancient Vessels in China and the U.K.

    摘要: Vessel decorations recorded the shifts of oceanic aesthetic and beliefs in different countries and regions,therefore serving as valuable cultural relics and tangible shipping documents.By comparing the boat eyes and colorful paintings on the Chinese vessels with the figureheads on the British ones,this article explored the ornaments on the ancient ships in China and the U.K.which played an important role in the eastern and the western shipping history.The results showed:Both China and the U.K.valued the shipping spirit of enterprise,courage and loyalty,but differed in their understanding of the relationship between humans and the ocean,and therefore developed different approaches in their exploration of the ocean.The contrastive studies unveiled the deep roots for the varied navigational traditions and beliefs in the two countries and proposed new perspectives in researching the eastern and western shipping cultures.

    摘要: In the last years,programs and activities have been held in relation with the theme of"Empower Women in the Maritime Community".The paper firstly takes a background introduction and then presents the status of women in the Maritime Community.Then it analyses and discusses its significance from theoretical and realistic points of view.Finally,based on conclusion of advanced experience from international maritime community,the paper puts forward approaches to create more diverse,sustainable Asia maritime culture.

  • 4. A framework for improving the Marine Spatial Data System in the Republic of Korea

    摘要: The main objective of this paper is to:(1)analyze and compare the present Marine Spatial Data(MSD)system in the Republic of Korea(ROK)with those of other countries,(2)identify the legal vacuum of the Act on Marine Spatial Planning(MSP)and Management,(3)propose a solid legal framework for the MSD system. By exploring some key significant points in the MSD system,the paper revealed a lack of a comprehensive framework for managing MSD in the current system.To effectively support the MSP,the study concludes that the Act should provide a legal basis for securing implementation.Preparing standardized guidelines is essential to combine distributed marine space information into an integrated one.In addition,amending ambiguous clauses of the implementation of MSP is crucial. This research illustrates how the advanced framework of the MSD system can be applied to ROK in two ways:(1)by establishing an executive MSP organization to provide guidelines concerning MSD for related organizations,(2)by connecting administration such as licensing with this MSD system's scenarios.This advanced system shall increase not only the public's cyclical participation in the MSP processes utilizing open API but also public acceptability thereby improving the transparency of decision-making based on scientific data and shall decrease social conflicts on sea use.

  • 5. A Bayesian Network-Based Approach to Port State Control Ship Detention Risk Assessment

    摘要: Building a ship detention risk model can help Port State Control Official(PSCO)to accurately select ships with higher detention risk and improve the efficiency of port state supervision.This paper uses data from a total of 1893 ship inspection reports in the Data Paris MoU database to construct a model using Bayesian Network(BN),and uses sensitivity methods to analyze the relationship between the influence of inherent ship attributes,PSC inspection items,the number of ship defects and ship detention.The results show that pollution prevention,navigation safety equipment and the number of defects are the key inspection items affecting ship detention,and when the ship has the above defects,the ship detention rate increases to 12.85%,11.07%and 22.19%respectively.Therefore,the key inspection items can be prioritized to determine the ship condition,quantitatively analyze the ship detention risk and provide suggestions for port state authorities to make ship detention decisions.

  • 6. Research on collision avoidance route planning based on A-star algorithm

    摘要: Under the impetus of economic globalization,maritime traffic develops rapidly.With the increase of the number of ships,the number of marine traffic accidents caused by human error has surged.Therefore,for the purpose of reducing the occurrence of such accidents,the development of unmanned ships has become an important research topic and has received a lot of attention.Route planning is one of the essential key technologies in the research of ship collision avoidance.A ship collision avoidance route planning system combining OZT method,and A-star algorithm is proposed in this paper.The effectiveness of system was validated in simulation.The result indicated that the system has applicability in multi ships encounter situation.

  • 7. A Study on Identification of Ship Type by B-Scope Radar Image using AI

    摘要: In a ship traffic survey,it is time taking to identify the type of small ships less than 500 GT those are not required to have AIS on board.Particularly in the nighttime survey when the visibility is limited,time to check the observed record is necessary.Also at night,it is concerned that the observation accuracy might be lower than day time as the identification of ship type tends to depend on the subjective judgement of the observation personnel in nighttime.In this study,aiming at the work and time saving ship traffic survey,we reviewed the possibility of ship type identification by the radar reflection intensity distribution using Artificial Intelligence(AI).At this stage,review on two methods of the ship type identification using AI technology are underway:one by camera images of the ships and the other by the radar reflection intensity distribution.In this paper,we report the result of the review using the radar reflection intensity distribution.

    摘要: With the development of shipping industry,the number of ships entering and leaving the port is increa sing,Maritime Safety Administration shall ensure the safe navigation by improving VTS service quality.According to the statistics of ship's entering and leaving the Yantai port of Shandong,this paper puts forward that some VHF reports shall be exempted from ships entering and leaving the port frequently,and break through the limitation of the current ship reporting system,so as to optimize the VTS repor ting system,and promote the friendship between VTS and ships.

  • 9. Study on the Path to Achieve Carbon Neutrality of China's Shipping under the Background of"Double Carbon"and Compliance

    摘要: In order to reduce greenhouse gas(GHGs)emission,the international community has made great efforts to explore the system of GHGs energy saving and emission reduction,carbon emissions trading and carbon tax.International Maritime Organization in the initial strategic objectives of GHGs to carry out the revision,to discuss the increase of GHGs emission reduction in shipping,and as a short-term measure into the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships,1973,As Modified by the Protocol of 1978 Relating thereto(MARPOL Convention).China is a party to the MARPOL Convention,and once the amendment to Annex VI of the Convention enters into force,China must comply with the requirements of the Convention.In line with the international trend of emission reduction,China has also made a commitment to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060.The latest measures taken by the international community to reduce GHG emission are introduced through the elaboration of the latest revision of GHGs emission reduction strategies.The current situation of China's shipping fleet and CO2 emissions is analyzed,and on the basis of profound elaboration on the possible impact of the international community's GHGs emission reduction policies and carbon tax policies on China,the proposed pathway for China to achieve carbon neutrality,including the construction of the rule of law for energy conservation and emission reduction,research and development of energy conservation and emission reduction technologies,matching funds for emission reduction,and early implementation of carbon emission trading and carbon tax policies,is proposed with a view to providing support for China to carry out research on GHGs emission reduction in shipping industry.

  • 10. A Corpus-based Analysis of Linguistic Features of IALA Publications

    摘要: In order to help people in Asian countries to have a better understanding of IALA publications,and to participate in information exchange more effectively,the research is mainly taken to study the linguistics features of IALA publications.The IALA standards,recommendations and guidelines of recent five years are used to establish a corpus to investigate the linguistic parameters such as the type-token ratio,keyword list,word clusters,passive voice,modal verbs and so on;and the language rules and application patterns are summarized by taking the in-depth analysis of language characteristics of IALA publications.

  • 12. A Study on Maritime Education and Training-Self-Evaluation,Mutual Evaluation and Multistep Evaluation-

    摘要: Evaluation is an essential part of education and training,and it can be used in maritime education and training to help learners organize their knowledge and improve their skills,as well as to improve education and training methods.In this study,self-evaluation and mutual evaluation were conducted during anchoring training on the training ship Shioji Maru belonging to the Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology.In a survey of students trained in 2020 and 2021 regarding the acquisition of knowledge and skills,94.2%of students rated themselves as"very effective"or"effective"in their self-evaluation and 92.0%of students rated themselves as"very effective"or"effective"in their mutual evaluation.Comparing the self-evaluation scores with the mutual evaluation scores,it was found that the mutual evaluation scores tended to rank higher than the self-evaluation scores.This is thought to be due to a lack of confidence in one's own ship handling skills,which leads to harsh evaluations of oneself and more lenient evaluations of others.It was also found that the higher the instructor's evaluation score,the smaller the difference between the self-evaluation score and the instructor's evaluation score.Students with higher scores in the instructor's evaluation were more confident in their ship handling skills,which is thought to indicate that they can evaluate themselves more accurately.On the other hand,self-evaluation was conducted at an early stage immediately after the training,and the bridge operation team and the entire team also conducted the self-evaluation again after the debriefing.In other words,a two-step evaluation was conducted through two evaluations conducted at different times.We show the results of a qualitative analysis of the students'impressions and opinions of this multistep evaluation using the steps for coding and theorization(SCAT)method.

  • 14. A Study on Long Period Waves in Coastal Waters of Toyama and Niigata

    摘要: The research on waves has been carried out in National Institute of Technology,Toyama College(NIT,Toyama College)since 1967,but generating mechanism of long period waves is not clear yet.And so,long period waves were investigated by analyzing tide levels which were observed at coasts of Toyama and Niigata in this study.The results are as follows. (1)There is a wave with period of about 321 days in residuals between observed and calculated tide levels,amplitude and phase of the wave in Toyama and Niigata are the same.The amplitude of the wave is 1.5cm and the phase of the wave is 284 degrees. (2)There is a wave with period of about 420 days in residuals between observed and calculated tide levels,amplitudes and phases of the wave in Toyama and Niigata are slightly different from each other.The amplitude of the wave is 1.3 cm in Toyama and 1.2 cm in Niigata and the phase of the wave is 263 degrees in Toyama,260 degrees in Niigata. The wave with period of about 321 days,amplitude of 1.5 cm and phase of 284 degrees,which exists in coastal waters of Toyama and Niigata,is generated by fluctuation of the earth gravity.Further there is a possibility that the wave with the period of about 420 days,which corresponds to chandler period(about 435 days),is driven by the polar motion.Moreover,the waves suggest that tectonic plates are swaying relatively to inner earth under asthenosphere,and as a result,gravity on earth surface fluctuations with periods of 321 days and 420 days. It is a future problem to make clear generating mechanisms of the long period waves.

  • 15. Pressure Variation Model of an Underwater Vehicle through Multiple Motions using CFD simulation

    摘要: An underwater vehicle operates efficiently in the water environment when it determines the speed and direction.In this article,we investigate the pressure variation model(PVM)of an underwater vehicle to predict its speed and direction.A series of pressure sensors located at the port and starboard sides along the submerged body is used to measure the variation of pressure surrounding the body.The dynamic pressure is a selection to consider as a function of the flow velocity acting on each pressure sensor.Due to the good accuracy and flexibility in motion simulation of the CFD(computational fluid dynamics)method,it is applied to execute the submerged vehicle motions from simple to complexes such as rectilinear,turning,gliding,and spiral motions.For each motion,motion variables including linear velocity,angular velocity,and angle are given to describe the trajectory as well as the characteristics of motions.Based on the results of pressure variation,pressure are big changed for the position the head and rear of AUV.The PVM is established considering the motion variables and positions of the pressure sensors.The PVM proposed is also used to determine the motion variables.

  • 16. An intelligent and Auto-Response System toward Fixed point Marine Wind/Wave forecast

    摘要: In order to improve the accuracy and timeliness of marine weather forecasts and the intelligence of marine weather forecast information response,and to fill the gap of real-time hydrographic information sharing between ships at sea and land,this paper investigates an intelligent response system for winds and waves over the sea.This study investigates multiple sources of comprehensive weather forecast information and provides ships at sea after processing on demand with them. The system can identify the request mail sent from the sea intelligently,extract the sea area,latitude and longitude coordinates in the mail subject automatically,analyze the latest numerical model meteorological data automatically by interpolation,and calculate the wind speed and wind direction change at a specific point in the next few days.At the same time,the system will automatically grab the latest weather forecast model maps issued by national specialized meteorological agencies,use Python OpenCV image processing to identify wind scales and wave heights at specific points.

  • 17. An Actively Positioning System with an Accurate Localization Technique for Sunken Container via a Three-layer Network Structure

    摘要: Searching for the sunken container is a significant task when an accident happens.However,it is challenging to figure out the accurate position of the container in such a highly dynamic and complex ocean environment.The container must have passively waited for detection on the seabed via scanning technology,which is inefficient.To get rid of the situation,the paper proposes a three-layer network structure where the container equipped with the sensors can indirectly but actively indicate its location in the underwater layer and share it with users.Moreover,considering the acoustic signal stratification effect,a localization technique that combines the bisection method and a linear estimator is presented in the underwater layer.A theoretical analysis of the proposed technique is also conducted.Simulations demonstrate that the proposed method has a relatively satisfactory localization accuracy compared with other state-of-the-art approaches.

  • 18. Strain monitoring and analysis of thin plate structure of large cruise on Rising-Landing process

    摘要: As the background of the floating project in dock of the luxury cruise firstly built in china,for the purpose of obtaining the structure strain of key parts in the floating process,the local area of the two decks was selected as the monitoring object,the whole floating-pier landing process was monitored,the dynamic strain data of different states and processes were obtained.The strain data of the thin plate structure in the rising-landing process were mastered,and the release level of structural residual stress during construction is verified and analyzed,which provides a strong support for the structural optimization and construction implementation of subsequent ships.

  • 19. Identification of Noise Points in Buoy Telemetry Position Data Based on PSO-DBSCAN Algorithm

    摘要: Buoys are artificial signs that guide the navigation of ships,and are of great significance to ensuring the safety of ships.The effective use of the buoy telemetry position data can analyze the offset characteristics of the buoy and improve the buoy's navigation aid efficiency.However,due to the influence of data transmission or human factors,the buoy telemetry data often contains noise points,which affects the application of buoy telemetry position data.To identify noise points in buoy telemetry position data,a DBSCAN algorithm optimized by particle swarm optimization is proposed,and the input parameters are determined adaptively to realize the identification of noise points in the buoy telemetry position data.Experiments on the relative buoy telemetry position data in Xiamen Port show that the PSO-DBSCAN algorithm can accurately identify the noise points in the buoy telemetry position data,and its effect is consistent with the actual situation.

  • 20. Resistance performance of a ship in brash ice channel using CFD and DEM coupling model

    摘要: The brash ice channel formed with icebreaker navigation is a normal working scenario for ice-going vessels.Therefore,it is necessary to study the brash ice resistance in this condition.In this paper,CFD and DEM coupling method was adopted to investigate the resistance performance of a ship sailing in model-scaled brash ice fields,considering the collision force and friction resistance among the brash ice,the water resistance,and the hydrodynamic force of brash ice,which make up the physical scenarios of navigation in the brash ice channel.Firstly,the resistance in brash ice channel was simulated by using CFD and DEM coupling methods.Then,the numerical simulation results were compared with the experimental results in HSVA ice tank.It was shown that the error between the numerical simulation results and the test results is less than 5%,which shows the robustness of the present coupling strategy.And the movement of broken ice is consistent with the experimental phenomenon.

  • 21. Study on quantitative risk assessment and inspection of offshore pressure vessels

    摘要: Quantitative risk assessment of pressure vessels for offshore oil and gas production is beneficial for controlling risks,optimizing design,reducing production costs,guiding the implementation of risk mitigation measures and formulating inspection cycles and inspection plans.A quantitative analysis method is used to calculate the damage coefficient,probabilities and consequences of failure of the pressure vessel.The risk grade of the pressure vessel is divided in accordance with the established risk acceptance criteria,and the future inspection cycle and inspection plan are guided.The research results can accurately and quantitatively evaluate the risks of pressure vessels,and formulate inspection cycles and inspection plans for the risks.This method has been successfully applied to offshore and FPSO in China's seas and can be used as a reference for other projects.

  • 22. Analysis and research on data transmission interference of telemetry monitoring equipment of navigation beacon under electromagnetic noise source environment

    摘要: In the process of data transmission,the telemetry information monitoring equipment of navigational AIDS will be interfered by electromagnetic noise sources,which leads to the derivative problems of telemetry interference of navigational AIDS,that is,the regional,periodic and multiple time-out alarm problems of telemetry data of navigational AIDS in navigational AIDS information monitoring system.In order to solve the interference caused by environmental noise sources and further improve the anti-jamming and interference identification ability of telemetry information monitoring equipment of navigational markers in the jurisdiction area,this paper aims to analyze and study the electromagnetic interference problems of telemetry terminal module of navigational markers based on the actual daily management and maintenance work of navigational markers in the jurisdiction area.This paper tries to provide relevant help and countermeasures for the optimization of anti-interference ability of PLC integrated module of telemetry and remote control equipment of navigational AIDS and to improve the reliability,accuracy and timeliness of navigational AIDS information monitoring and supervision data.

  • 24. Numerical simulation of the effect of target distance variables on vertical scour of submerged water jets

    摘要: Water jet technology has been increasingly applied to subsea trenching operations in recent years.In this paper,from the practical point of view of subsea salvage,based on Flow-3D fluid software,it is concluded that the calculation results obtained by using nested grid,and the error is about 13%smaller than the previous simulation results,which proves that the grid division method is feasible and credible.The target distance is an important parameter affecting water jet scouring,and in this paper,based on the nested grid,with different target distances as variables and the maximum scouring pit depth as the measurement parameter,the relationship between the target distance 𝑚 and the maximum pit depth during water jet pit punching operation was investigated.And an empirical formula for the variation of pit depth with target distance in the main section under a specific condition is obtained.

  • 25. Basic Research on the Establishment of a Standardization Roadmap of Maritime Autonomous Surface Ship(MASS)

    摘要: The need for international standard development has been raised based on the results of many studies that the development of Maritime Autonomous Surface Ship(MASS)progressed actively around the world and economic effects can be obtained by using standards.In this study,in order to develop a standardization roadmap required in the field of MASS,the standards published or under development in the field of International Organization for Standardization(ISO)Technical Committee 8,Ships and Marine Technology were analyzed.In addition,by analyzing the existing reports and research results,the performance of MASS related technologies was classified into five categories:situational awareness,intelligent navigation,remote control,ship operation,and port support.The analysis results and technical classification in this study were evaluated and verified through a meeting composed of experts in the relevant field.For further studies the mid-to long-term planning of standardization will be proceeded.

  • 26. Simulation analysis of leakage,diffusion and explosion of ships carrying dangerous goods while waiting for lock and mooring

    摘要: In order to minimize the casualties and economic losses caused by dangerous goods leakage accidents caused by dangerous goods ships passing through the Three Gorges ship locks and waiting to be anchored,the article is based on the ALOHA software,which comprehensively considers the volume of dangerous goods passing through the Three Gorges locks,the form of dangerous goods,the form of packaging and Physical and chemical properties and other factors were used to determine the numerical simulation parameters,and numerical simulations were carried out for methanol,1,2-xylene,and oil and gas in the toxic area,flammable area,and explosion area of the vapor cloud.Combined with the MARPLOT software,the numerical simulation results were fitted to the Three Gorges Waiting Gate.The electronic river map of the anchorage is visualized.And through the analysis of the numerical simulation results,it is proposed that for the leakage accident of methanol,1,2 xylene and oil and gas,the emergency response warning range should be set at 3000m,781m and 6300m downwind of the leakage source,so as to effectively guide the danger.The anchoring of the ship before passing the lock is safe.

  • 27. Research on VDR data analysis for realization of data-based autonomous remote control

    摘要: The implementation of smooth remote control between land and sea is a key goal of autonomous operation.In addition,it is also a prerequisite for remote ship control for land controllers to grasp the ship's operation status.We need to select the data required by the land controller among the multiple data transmitted and received through the wireless network environment,and find out how to deliver the selected data to the land controller.To this end,important information on ship navigation was selectively collected using the VDR log of the Korea Maritime University,and as a result of program production and analysis according to the purpose,there were three types of data that could be collected(text,video,image),and 35 types.Among them,it was analyzed that there were 10 essential data for identifying the ship operation status of land controllers,and it was found that data necessary for remote control can be extracted from VDR data.It is expected that this can contribute to the implementation of smooth remote control in the development of autonomous ship technology.

  • 28. A Study on the Vagueness in sailing rule of COLREGs of Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships

    摘要: COLREGs are rules to prevent collisions at sea,and are composed based on the Qualitative rule.Despite the rules,maritime accidents continue to occur,and autonomous ships have appeared due to reducing human error of crew and technological development.In this process,the problem of collision avoidance between manned and unmanned ships emerged,and to solve this problem,an automatic collision avoidance algorithm based on COLREGs was developed.However,since COLREGs sailing rule are based on qualitative rules and Good Seamanship,their standards are different,and this standard created a difference between the standards and the crew's collision avoidance situation awareness.Therefore,in this study,the crew's perception of the collision situation based on COLREGs was identification,and the results were analyzed for the sailing rule between manned and manned ships or unmanned and manned ships.The result was analyzed that the navigator showed vagueness about the three collision avoidance models of COLREGs,and that it was different depending on the collision angle.

    摘要: Xiamen Port is an important hub of the national comprehensive transportation system,a main coastal port of the container,a port of departurethe.It is the main carrier of Xiamen southeast international shipping center and an important port of exchange across the Taiwan straits.According to the master plan of Xiamen port(2035)issued by Xiamen port authority,it will actively promote the integration and structural adjustment of port resources,expand modern shipping services,to develop the port into a modern port with reasonable layout,perfect functions,advanced facilities,green security.The rapid development of Xiamen port is inseparable from the ship support for cargo transportation,but also from the port support system such as waterway,navigational service,maritime supervision,pilotage and rescue.This paper expounds the structure,implementation direction and implementation path of the support system,hoping to provide reference for relevant departments or personnel.

  • 30. Develop an experimental for remote survey for emergency machineries

    摘要: Remote surveys for non-emergency machinery are expected to be actively researched and invested in.On the other hand,the remote survey for emergency machinery is not accepted to modify once it is already approved under the classification rules and international conventions.The aim of this study is to develop an experimental method for remote surveys for emergency machinery.It is proposed to use the Edge AI with image processing for remote surveys.The result of this study showed the remote survey model proposed in this study does not require any modification of the existing machinery and the installation of additional equipment for the survey is simple.Several findings from this research are expected to contribute to future research on a remote survey of other emergency machinery.

  • 31. Research on Smart Port Theory and Countermeasures Based on Internet of Things Technology

    摘要: With the development of Internet,the global economy has spawned intelligent-shipping,thus driving the rise and development of smart ports.First,after reviewing the development status of smart ports supported by information technology and Internet of Things(IoT)technology,this paper carries out theoretical research on the integrated platform of smart port based on the IoT.By establishing a multi-objective optimization model and designing an intelligent optimization algorithm,the ship schedule coordination problem in port and shipping scheduling is explored.Secondly,in order to close to practical application,the influence factors of ship navigation such as big data,ship characteristics and navigation environment are fully considered.Data mining technology and machine learning algorithm are used to generate ship passage plan.Furthermore,the theory has been verified by practical promotion,and the"the integrated platform of smart port"based on theory has been developed and improved.The stage development,construction and iteration from the smart port version 1.0 of Shanghai Port to the smart port version 2.0 of Nantong Port are realized.Finally,the paper puts forward countermeasures and suggestions to promote the development of IoT in the smart ports.

  • 33. The history of the training ship Kaiwo Maru and her achievements in promoting maritime affairs after retirement

    摘要: Following the loss of the sail training ship Kirishima Maru at sea with all hands in 1927,two sail training ships,the Kaiwo Maru and her sister ship Nippon Maru,were constructed and launched in 1930.In the decades that followed,these sailing vessels provided apprentice seamen and officer cadets with safe and efficient deck training environments during numerous overseas voyages.During her 59 years of service prior to her retirement,Kaiwo Maru sailed more than 1,460,000 km and provided educational services to 7,708 trainees.After her retirement,she was moored at the Toyama Shinko Port in Imizu City,Toyama Prefecture,where she now hosts events such as full-sail exhibitions and other maritime educational programs.Through these efforts,the Kaiwo Maru increases visitors'knowledge and interest in ships and the sea while contributing to the maritime education of younger generations.This study was conducted as part of efforts to create a digital archive of the Kaiwo Maru's historic maritime heritage and to provide examples of the efficient usage of the accumulated data. Through our efforts,numerous ship documents related to the Kaiwo Maru's service as an active training ship,such as deck logbooks and illustrations showing construction and repair work,have been digitally preserved.Since these documents,which span the fields of navigation,shipbuilding,and maritime education,among others,are part of our nation's priceless maritime heritage,we began creating a digital archive by photographing various documents on display in the Captain's Office in place,starting with Logbook No.1,after which all 298 logbooks covering the period from 1930 to 1989,along with various documents since her retirement,were digitalized. Then,to explore the possibilities of various maritime education effects using the digitalized data,we conducted actual-finding investigations of the Kaiwo Maru's first journeys that we entitled"Maiden Oceangoing Voyage to Truk Island"and the"Challenging Voyage to the Bering Sea".

  • 34. Collecting and Analyzing Successful Experiences in Difficult Collision Avoidance

    摘要: A recently developed safety concept called Safety-Ⅱ has gained attraction to be implemented in a variety of disciplines.Safety II aims to ensure safety through flexible response and shows promising potential applications for the maritime domain.When considering effective safety training methods for nautical students and inexperienced navigation officers,it is necessary to develop new training methods based on the concepts of Safety II.This method of implementation needs to refer to the successful maneuvering experience of ship navigators.However,attaining meaningful maneuvering experience is difficult because the experiences like near-miss cases or minor accidents are not always reported in detail.In this study,we have determined the importance of learning from successful maneuvering experiences in difficult collision avoidance situations.Keeping these points in mind,this study aims to collect and analyze successful experiences in difficult collision avoidance.This study was successful in logging many different cases of successful collision avoidance.Results suggest that there is a difference between senior and junior navigators,and precautions,special training,etc.may be required in the ordinary practice of seafarers who face high cognitive demands in actual collision avoidance situations.Results also indicate that these precautionary techniques may require more than textbooks and classrooms to successfully train seafarers.The analysis carried out in this study clearly indicates that constructing a Safety-Ⅱ-based training method can enhance young navigator proficiency to adapt to safe ship-handling even in complex situations.

  • 35. A Study on the Perception of Vessel Collision Risk of Trainees

    摘要: According to the recent statistics of maritime accidents in Korea,collisions were the most common accidents related to maritime traffic.In IMO Model Course 7.03,which stipulated the training course to become an officer in charge of navigational watch,education on COLREGs72 takes up the most time.However,collision prevention education is insufficient in the training curriculum of Korea maritime educational institutions.Therefore,this study aims to suggest the need of collision prevention education for trainees by presenting the current status of Korea's on-board training and the trainees'perception of collision risk.To examine the trainees'perception of collision risk,a survey was executed on the trainees in training ships of the Korea Maritime and Ocean University at the 2nd semester of 2021.The valid responses of the survey were compared with the PARK(Potential Assessment Risk)Model,which is maritime traffic risk models of Korea.Analysis shows that as the boarding period has elapsed,the trainees felt a higher risk in encounters with other ships,and perception of collision risk among the trainees became similar.When comparing trainees and the PARK model,it was found that consigned trainees of 1st semester were most similar to the collision risk perception tendency of PARK model when they disembarked.This seems to be because,the consigned trainees spent a lot of time on the navigational watch on merchant ships during the 1st semester.However,the capacity of consignment training is restricted,so that the necessity for collision prevention education was magnified.Therefore,an AHP-based survey was conducted in order to derive the optimal collision prevention education method.As a result of the analysis,it was verified that simulation training is suitable for a collision prevention education.This study can be used as fundamental research for the development of collision prevention education using the simulator.

  • 36. Generation of Convergent Ship Traffic Dataset using Sentinel-1 Imagery and AIS

    摘要: Satellite-based ship detection has opened a new era of marine surveillance in recent decades.The ship detection using Sentinel-1,a Synthetic Aperture Radar(SAR)satellite image product,is an excellent measure of monitoring illegal activities at sea.Despite that,it is essential to compare the detection data to other convincible resources to verify whether the detected ships are indeed and to obtain further information.This paper introduces the procedure of matching the information of ships that are detected from Sentinel-1 imagery and Automatic Identification System(AIS)data.Since there are factors including the satellite's trajectory and scanning duration,appropriate data extraction from metadata of Sentinel-1 is required in advance.Azimuth shift,a symptom where a ship position moves to forward or backward of the SAR satellite proceeds in the imagery,also must be compensated.Consequently,a new dataset combining the information from Sentinel-1 and AIS is composed.

  • 37. Research on safety risk management of restricted ships navigating in the yangtze river

    摘要: After the opening of the 12.5m deep-water channel below Nanjing of the Yangtze River,the role of the Golden Waterway is further highlighted,and 200000 tonnage seagoing ships can reduce the load and berth at Zhenjiang Port.In recent years,the number of restricted ships entering the river has increased significantly.In 2021,the number of restricted ships led by the Yangtze River Pilotage will be 13914.According to the internal data of the Yangtze River Pilotage Center,the number of out of control restricted ships will reach 37 in 2021,bringing great pressure to the safety management of maritime,pilotage and other institutions.This paper takes the whole process of restricted ships entering the river as the research object,uses risk theory to classify the risk level of ships sailing,turning,crossing and possible out of control situations,and then puts forward corresponding countermeasures and suggestions,which can provide reference for the safety management of relevant departments.

  • 41. Introduction of Korea autonomous surface ship project and ship network security equipment development

    摘要: The International Maritime Organization(IMO)recommends establishing a cyber-risk management system in the ship safety management system(SMS)from January 2021 based on the resolution MSC.428(98)(Maritime cyber risk management in safety management systems).And the 27th International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities(IALA)discussed prioritizing cyber-security(cyber-risk management)in developing systems to support Maritime Autonomous Surface Ship(MASS)operations(IALA guideline on developments in maritime autonomous surface ships).Following these discussions by the international community,Korea has started the Korea autonomous surface ship(KASS)technology development project(KASS project)from 2020 and has been carrying out detailed tasks for cyber security technology development since 2021.This study introduces the four core technologies of the KASS project which are the intelligent navigation system,engine automation system,performance demonstration center and demonstration technology,and operational technology and standardization.In addition,the basic concept of ship network security equipment for supporting KASS ship operation in the detailed task of cybersecurity technology development was introduced,and the ship network security equipment interface for KASS ship application was defined.

  • 42. Analysis of Situation Awareness of Remote Ship Operator Using Simulator

    摘要: Remote ship operation has received substantial attention as an approach to operate autonomous ships in the future.It is crucial to adequately comprehend states of the ship and environment for remote ship operators to control ships from remote locations;however,remote ship operations are not well understood.This paper proposes a method to analyze the information related to situation awareness during remote ship operation via simulation-based experiments using a remote maneuvering simulator.The situation awareness during an emergency system breakdown is analyzed on a pilot basis using modified situation awareness global assessment technique(SAGAT),which observes behaviors and eye-gazes of remote operators and conducts interviews with subjects.Results include that the detailed information on situation awareness of remote ship operators.

  • 45. Ship Detection from Sentinel-1 Imagery through Thresholding and Clustering Method

    摘要: Maritime surveillance has been a significant issue for protecting illegal activities at sea and conserving marine resources.However,the Automatic Identification System and V-Pass,a fishing boats'position reporting system,have a limited transmission distance and a high dependency on volunteering message reporting.Therefore,satellite imagery-based ship detection has emerged in maritime surveillance in recent decades.This study proposes a ship detection approach through the combination method of thresholding and clustering(TCM).Sentinel-1 imageries were used,that freely available at and provided by the Copernicus Open Access Hub that operated by European Space Agency(ESA).Ships at sea are detected through TCM after completing preprocessing procedures,including thermal noise removal,terrain correction,and masking out of a land area.The proposed method shows a high detection speed and is expected to contribute to maritime surveillance.

  • 46. Revealing success factors of safe ship operations of experienced captains to assess functional requirements of Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships using FRAM

    摘要: It is essential to reveal skills of experienced captains in order to define functional requirements of Maritime Autonomous surface ships(MASS).While textbooks,manuals,and laws define rules for captains and officers to follow,there are lots of other tacit knowledge,which are not written in documents,for safe ship operations.In this respect,it is essential to take into account complex dependencies among tasks/subtasks to build"an experienced captain's model".In order to accomplish this goal,we adopted a function-based modeling methodology which can support rich environmental factors for analyzing ship management operation.In this research,we conducted the following two steps to identify functional requirements of MASS,i.e.,1)modelling the skills of officers of the watch(OoW)from literature reviews,2)analyzing the actions of OoWs from the data acquired with gaze movements. Firstly,we performed modellings of OoWs'skills by utilizing FRAM.FRAM provides a way to describe how systems work in given working environment by using a characteristic functional representation of the systems as a diagram;each function of the systems is defined with six aspects,visually represented as a hexagon whose vertexes correspond to each of them,and eventually the systems are represented as a network of the six aspects.This representation provides complex dependencies among functions,and moreover,deeper insights about how the systems are successfully functioning.Secondly,we analyzed actions of OoWs observed in the simulator trial s,using data obtained from an eye-tracker,videos,and a wearable device to measure heart rate variability.Then we have examined relationships between the variety of the OoWs'actions and the heart rate variability.This study will contribute to define functional requirements of MASS for safety ship operations and assess the functions of MASS to develop.

    摘要: Port wharf is the home for ships to stay.In order to facilitate ships to find the way home,light piles marking the left and right limits are built on both sides of the port wharf approach channel to guide and assist navigation.With the change of time and the need of economic development,some ports have been relocated or abandoned,and the navigational AIDS of lamp piles built for a long time have been greatly reduced,which have less or even cannot play their navigational AIDS at all.Therefore,considering the safety of ship navigation and the principle of not wasting national assets,it is completely necessary and feasible to relocate or remove the lamp piles that have been relocated or abandoned in the port.

  • 48. Collision Analyze and Map Plotting of Korea-Japan navigating vessels

    摘要: Korea-Japan route is important for both Korean and Japanese economy and shipping industry.However,presences of many vessels in this sea area,geographical characteristics,and a short voyage make this route dangerous.In this paper,written verdicts of Korea Central Maritime Safety Tribunal and accident survey reports of Japan Transportation Safety Board were analyzed.Also,Ship collisions occurred in this route are classified by vessel types,encounter situation and main causes,or other factors.Then,their positions and traits are plotted on map by Geographic Information System(GIS)software.From analyzing data,results were found as follows.First,collision occurs throughout the entire shipping route.Second,accidents between fishing boat and cargo ship usually occur in Korea Strait and South Sea of Korea.Also,fishing boats on this route may operate in drowsy condition due to fatigue.In contrast,there is a high risk of collision with cargo ships on Kanmon Straits.In addition,accidents related with cargo ships are mainly caused by the improper lookout and the misuse of VHF.

  • 50. Learning Officer Performance Variability from Dangerous Ship Encounter Situations in Ship Simulator

    摘要: Safety-Ⅱ terminology tries to understand how work is done in dynamic situations,dealing with multiple constraints,yet the system can still work in(almost)normal operation.This research aimed to elaborate intensely on ship officer performance variability in dangerous ship encounters to determine how human adaptability maintains the system to work in normal performance.The dangerous ship encounters are created through ship simulation.Seven licensed officers have been invited to perform an experiment for data collection.A dangerous encounter situation was designed to force the participant to perform out of the ordinary,where the variable in performance can be distinguished.A relatively similar system propagation has been captured in two different forms.The effect of variability performance in the output of the maneuvering process has also been obtained.As a result,this study presents what performance should be managed and improved to make ship navigation more resilient.

  • 51. Dynamic obstacle avoidance algorithm of ships in Bridge Area based on potential energy field:A Case study of Shanghai-Suzhou-Nantong Yangtze River Railway Bridge

    摘要: With the large-scale,high-speed and professional development of ships,the risk of ship collision is increasingly serious,navigation safety of bridge area is a research focus.This paper proposes an intelligent collision avoidance method for ships in navigable waters of bridge area based on potential field theory,which dynamically plans the optimal collision avoidance routes of ships considering the restrictions of channels,piers and ships.The potential energy field in the water area of the ship-bridge-channel integrated bridge area is established according to the real-time navigation situation.A* algorithm is used to search the minimum potential energy path,and the main nodes of the minimum potential energy path are extracted as collision avoidance route nodes.Taking Shanghai-Suzhou-Nantong Yangtze River Railway Bridge as a case study,the results show that the method can realize the digital description of navigable waters in the bridge area,and the dynamically planned collision avoidance route can ensure the navigation safety of ships in the bridge area.This method can provide technical reference for intelligent collision avoidance of ships,and can be used for safety management of bridge area by maritime authorities.

    摘要: With the increased marine traffic in the recent decade,it has become essential to monitor the amount of traffic in the territorial sea because of maritime accidents and overfishing.The state-of-art technologies such as marine telecommunication and satellite observation have been drastically interested in researchers and have enhanced maritime surveillance power.Despite that,the forecasting of ship density is required to arrange the human resources of the coast guard efficiently.Therefore,this paper introduces Auto-Regressive Integrated Moving Average(ARIMA),an analysis model for time-series data,to forecast ship density.Prior to the application of the model,V-Pass data is preprocessed,and then the number of fishing ships within 12 hours(day/night each)and within specific spatial grids is counted.ARIMA model has been generated after checking the stationarity of the data for every spatial grid.The proposed method is revealed that forecast ship density within reasonable error bounds.

  • 54. Study on Educational Methods to Enhance Non-technical Skills required for The Officers in charge of a Navigational Watch

    摘要: In the airline industry,which handles the transportation as the maritime shipping industry does,the importance of non-technical skills as a required competency for airline pilots is recognized,and the education and training to enhance the ability such as situation awareness,decision making,and communication has begun.In the maritime shipping industry as well,Bridge Resource Management(referred to as BRM)competency was included in STCW from the Manila Amendments in 2010 for maintain a safe navigational watch,and it began to be required to educate and train the ability of situation awareness.It is necessary to enhance the ability of situation awareness of the officers in charge of a navigational watch(hereinafter,referred to as OICNW)to avoid collision with other ships. However,the current education and training for seafarers focused mainly on the requirements for obtaining a mariners license(STCW requirements such as basic knowledge for navigational skills,principles of navigational equipment,specific factors that affect ship maneuvering and so on.),which classified technical skills. In this study,in order to analyze the correlation between the situation awareness elements of OICNW's non-technical skills and the causes of ship collisions,authors created a situation awareness elements classification sheet on the navigational watch and analyzed which component is correlated to the collisions. In this paper,authors considered what kind of the education and training should be introduced to enhance the ability of situation awareness required for the OICNW in order to prevent the situation awareness category from leading to the collisions.
